My creative team-building workshops use painting and art-making to bring colleagues together in a relaxed, engaging environment where there are no job titles, no artistic expectations and definitely no need to be "good at art".
These workshops can be designed simply as a fun, shared creative experience or tailored to explore some of the things that help great teams work well together — communication, collaboration, trust, adaptability, empathy and understanding different perspectives.
The Art of Connection
For organisations looking for something more than a traditional team-building activity, The Art of Connection uses a series of facilitated creative exercises to explore the way we communicate, listen, interpret information and work with others.
Participants might be asked to create from the same set of instructions, communicate an image to a colleague who can't see it, contribute to someone else's artwork or collaborate on a shared canvas.
And something interesting happens.
Give ten people exactly the same creative brief and you'll get ten completely different responses.
Neither is necessarily right or wrong. They're simply different.
Through art-making, those differences become visible — creating opportunities to recognise how easily we make assumptions, how differently we interpret information and how valuable another person's perspective can be.
The activities are fun, but there's purpose behind them. Gentle facilitated conversations throughout the workshop help teams connect what happens around the canvas with what can happen in the workplace.
No artistic experience required.
In fact, not knowing how to paint can be part of the experience.
Taking people outside their usual area of expertise creates a more level playing field. The manager isn't necessarily the expert. The quietest person in the room might have the idea that changes everything. Someone who likes control may have to hand their canvas to somebody else and trust what happens next.
It's an opportunity to experiment, make mistakes, laugh, listen and see your colleagues from a different perspective.
